The Power of Music in Galvanizing Resistance to Oppression: Finlandia by Jean Sibelius
John Sibelius was a great composer and a Finnish patriot who stood up against the oppression of Finns by the occupying Soviets.
This piece was so powerful as a symbol of nationalism and of opposition to oppression of the human spirit that the Soviets banned it for 6 years!
The Arab spring could use some great composers, singers and poets to galvanize the popular resistance to all of the Arab tyrants, with no exception.
Thank you Sibelius.
