Disapproval of Congress Hits All Time High of 84%, President Obama’s approval rating hit all time low 40%

“Americans have usually not held Congress in high regard, but currently they have a more negative view of the institution than any other time Gallup has measured,” states the report, noting that the disapproval figure stood at 77% last time Americans were polled on the issue in early July.
Approval of Congress, which stands at just 6 per cent according to Rasmussen, is measured by Gallup at 13 per cent, tying the all time historic low reached in December 2010, but the disapproval figure of 84 per cent is one percentage point higher than last December’s figure.
Disenchantment with Congress is mirrored by President Obama’s ailing approval rating, which also fell to an all time low of 40% in recent days.  Prison Planet.com »

Military Suicide Condolence Letters: White House Lifts Ban

The White House says that families of service members who commit suicide while deployed abroad are now getting condolence letters from the president just like families of troops who die in other ways.
The White House has been reviewing the policy since 2009, lobbied by some military families. A White House official said Tuesday that the change was made this week. The official spoke anonymously to discuss policy deliberations.  Read more...

House rebukes Pres. Obama on the Libyan war (to make them look good), but vote to continue funding the illegal conflict - go figure?

Editors note: This is an obvious set-up, with Pres. Obama being the fall guy.  What since does it make to rebuke the President over his handling of the military intervention (war) on Libya, refusing to authorize the illegal war, but agreeing to fund it?  Funding means authorizing, funding means sanctioning, funding is endorsing the US operation in Libya.  President Obama, a Black man, is being set-up for the big fall.

Is U.S. Attack on Libya Legal? Rep. Dennis Kucinich Debates Former Reagan Attorney Robert Turner

On Wednesday, a bipartisan group of 10 members of Congress sued President Obama for violating the War Powers Act of 1973 by failing to obtain congressional approval for military operations in Libya longer than 60 days. We host a debate between Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, one of the Congress members suing President Obama, and Robert Turner, who worked as an attorney in the Reagan White House and is a longtime critic of the War Powers Act. “President Obama’s position is absolutely clear: we are not engaged in war in Libya, and thus, if the War Powers Resolution were constitutional, it still would not apply,” Turner says. “I ask you, if another country sent 2,000 planes over the United States, and some of those missions dropped bombs on us, would that be an act of war against the United States?” says Kucinich. “That’s exactly what we’ve done in Libya.”   Read more,,,,

Honest Criticism (of Pres. Obama) is not Betrayal, it’s Democratic

Anecdotally, as others in the community attempt to engage in informed debate about the dismissals of Van Jones and Shirley Sherrod, allowing the Bush era tax cuts to continue, the escalation from two military endeavors to three (Libya), lack of support for union workers in Wisconsin, and other issues; they are summarily dismissed as traitors, “haters”, crazy, and misinformed. Or, as Professor Harris-Perry describes, “the self-appointed black leadership class that has been largely supplanted in recent years.”  Read more...

The legal license President Obama used to justify U.S. military intervention in Libya expired May 20th, it is now an Illegal War

The illegal war in Libya - Glenn Greenwald - Salon.com
"The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation" -- candidate Barack Obama, December, 2007
Illegal war? Congress doesn't care | Gene Healy | Columnists | Washington Examiner
On Friday the 60-day clock ran out, leaving Obama in clear violation of the War Powers Resolution, passed in 1973 to "fulfill the intent of the framers of the Constitution ... [and] insure that the collective judgment of both the Congress and the President will apply to the introduction of United States Armed Forces into hostilities."
It's a Simple Fact: Obama Is Now Waging an Illegal War | World | AlterNet
Regardless of whether one loves or loathes the president, or how one views his intervention in Libya, it is simply a conclusive fact that Barack Obama is now pursuing an illegal conflict. And a timid congress, so inured to our nation's permanent state of war, isn't calling him on its illegality.
Obama’s Folly: The Illegal War in Libya | US Opinion and Editorial Right Side News
For the life of me, I cannot figure out how we missed that little shortcoming of US law. But apparently, we did. And, as a result, Obama just goes ahead and acts as a king would do and issues “commands,” “decrees,” and “edicts.” What’s worse – the Mainstream Media, which lays claim to “watchdog” status for the people, will not call him on it. They just look the other way, totally disregarding illegal and/or unconstitutional actions of the Obama Administration.

Congress must re-think 'pro-Israel'

Members of Congress who truly care about Israel need to look past the self-righteous narratives and the self-serving talking points and recognize that, far from helping Israel, coming out in support of such positions makes the achievement of peace and security for Israel less likely.

Why? Because peace for Israel requires Palestinian national unity. Congress should welcome unity efforts, not seek to undermine them. For years the U.S. government has made the mistake of opposing Palestinian reconciliation rather than encouraging it. It would be reckless and irresponsible for Congress to compound this mistake.  - The Hill's Congress Blog
