Nameless – African Origins: Identifying the victims of the Transatlantic Slave Trade

The transatlantic slave trade has long been a chapter in world history that has not been revisited thoroughly enough. Its chapters have often been skipped in the long history of World Civilizations and its victims have equally been voiceless, faceless and above all nameless. Writes our own team member, Katchênin Koné.

But a name is an integral part of a person’s identity. A name identifies ones origins, it signifies a lineage, given from one generation to another and thereby by itself caring history. ‘What is your name’ and ‘Where are you from’ are one the first and most frequent questions anybody gets asked, especially when stepping on new terrain.
